RCT results
November 2023, St George’s, University of London
This unblinded randomised controlled trial with 100 healthcare students aimed to assess the effectiveness of Phase Space’s "Exam Stress" VR course compared to traditional 2D audio and video content delivered on smartphones.
Key Findings
VR Group Improvements: Students using VR headsets showed greater improvements in calmness and less stress and anxiety immediately after the sessions compared to the control group. They reported feeling more calm and confident, they appreciated the opportunity to regulate emotions, and felt “recharged”.
Long-lasting Effects: The VR group reported significantly reduced perceived stress and increased wellbeing from the pre-intervention stage to the follow-up at two weeks (p<0.05), effects not observed in the control group.
